"I came to Letting the Light In not knowing quite what to expect. I've lived in Phuket for six years and I still didn't really understand how Thai banks worked. After three sessions, I finally felt like I had a foothold. Nothing was rushed, and not once did I feel like I should have known something already."

"A Clear View Ahead was exactly what it says on the label. I had some savings but honestly no plan for them. Over six weeks I went from having a general anxiety about retirement to having a real sense of what to think about and what questions to ask my bank. The planning notebook was particularly useful — I still refer to it."

"The Wide Horizon Programme covered things I'd been putting off for years — pensions, healthcare, what happens with property if something changes. The ten weeks went at a comfortable pace and I never felt pressured. I appreciated that they were clear about not giving financial advice. It helped me feel I could trust what was being said."

"I joined the six-week course after my husband suggested it. My Thai was fine but a lot of financial language — even in Thai — had always felt distant to me. What I found at Siam Sage was a group of people who were in the same position, and educators who genuinely made space for that."

"I'm 58 and I've spent most of my adult life avoiding financial topics because they made me feel small. After the introductory course, I felt something shift. It's not that everything became clear overnight — but I understood enough to ask better questions."

"I took the Wide Horizon course with my wife. We'd both been putting off conversations about retirement planning for years. The programme gave us a shared vocabulary and a starting point. The closing session was particularly good — it helped us work out what to do next."

Case Studies

How the Courses Have Helped

Case Study 01

The Starting Point

A retired teacher, 61, had lived in Phuket for four years. She had savings in a UK account she hadn't touched and no Thai savings plan. She felt uncertain about how to move money between countries and had never opened a Thai savings account.

What She Did

She took Letting the Light In first, then followed with A Clear View Ahead six months later. The first course gave her the confidence to open a Thai savings account. The second helped her build a simple savings plan appropriate to where she was.

What Changed

She now has a working Thai account, a small regular savings contribution, and — for the first time — a meeting booked with a licensed financial adviser to talk through her longer-term plans. "I needed to understand the landscape before I could ask for directions," she said.

Case Study 02

The Starting Point

A Thai couple in their early fifties. Both working, with some savings, but without any structure around retirement. They had talked about planning but never acted. Healthcare costs in particular felt difficult to think about clearly.

What They Did

They joined The Wide Horizon Programme together. The sessions gave them a shared framework and language for conversations they'd previously found awkward. They did the worksheets alongside each other, which helped them see where their thinking agreed and where it didn't.

What Changed

By the end of the ten weeks they had a written outline of their retirement priorities, a clear list of questions for a financial professional, and — significantly — a healthcare plan they had researched and selected together. A small change, done with understanding rather than guesswork.

Case Study 03

The Starting Point

A 55-year-old German expat who had run a small business in Phuket for a decade. Comfortable with day-to-day finances but had no plan for what came next. He had never considered Thai pension options or what his business transition might look like.

What He Did

He went straight to A Clear View Ahead, skipping the introductory course as he had a reasonable handle on budgeting. Over six weeks, he worked through the longer-term sections and found the recorded lessons useful to revisit at his own pace.

What Changed

He enrolled in the Wide Horizon course the following term and came out of it with a clearer sense of his options — including conversations he now knows to have with a Thai legal adviser about his business structure. "I didn't know what I didn't know," he said. "Now at least I know the questions."
